Trying to get a grip.

My partner and I are in a tough spot. 6 years ago we got into a bad car deal on two used cars. Needless to say, we got in over our heads and they were both repossessed. She now has around $40k and I have around $16k on our reports. They have been deemed “uncollectible” and sent to collections. The debts are the only negative things on our credit report, but those alone are enough to crash and burn our scores into the high 400s. According to the reports, the debts will hit the 7 year mark next summer.

My question is: if I were to call this company and offer a pay-to-delete, would it even matter? If I just wait another year would it have the same effect? It’s caused us to be unable to purchase our home, get credit cards, my current vehicle is a BHPH car with a comedic interest rate (that I’ve never missed a payment on, but it doesn’t report so it’s useless,) hell I can’t even use Afterpay.

Any advice is helpful. Thank you.
