Just had my first colonoscopy today!
And it’s good to be on the other side of it.Thought I’d share my experience since reading all of yours really helped me be less anxious about all of this.
I scoured this sub, Reddit for tips and advice going in and it was really helpful. I had Gavilyte-c for my prep and drinking 12 glasses yesterday wasn’t as bad as I thought. Having wipes and Vaseline was super helpful and a tip I found here!
I went in this morning was super nervous about the iv but had a great nurse. They took me back and I was out like a light. I think they overdid it on the sedation though because when I finally did come to, I guess the doctor had already come and gone and talked to my husband. I have no memory of that at all I just wanted to rest and they were really pushing me to leave. They actually got me dressed and into the wheelchair and out the door. I was so groggy in the car ride home. I ended up getting a little carsick when I got home. I just crashed and woke up three hours later still not hungry, but I did eat some bread.
So overall, the prep wasn’t bad and even the procedure itself, but I’m a little bit upset with the recovery time and everyone else I know who’s gotten one done was able to walk out the door and that was not me. Since ive never had it hit me this hard in the past. I’m still a little dizzy but happy to be on the other side. No idea about my results as I will have to wait to later to talk to my husband as he dropped me off and went back to work. I think it was all clear though.
