Looking for feedback on a local-first photo manager for Linux Mint
I’m the developer of Lap, a local-first photo manager mainly aimed at family photo collections and photography enthusiasts.
Part of the idea came from wanting a modern alternative to apps like Picasa or Windows Photos — especially for people managing very large local libraries.
It’s designed to handle huge photo collections (100K+ images) while still keeping browsing and scrolling smooth.
Current features include:
- filesystem-based library management
- RAW photo support
- AI image search
- similar image search
- exact duplicate detection
- favorite/ratings/tags
- calendar/location/camera
- face recognition(beta now)
- split-view comparison
- library backup/restore
Lap is built with Tauri + Vue + Rust. It’s open source, local-first, and doesn’t require any cloud or self-hosted server setup.
Some Linux users have already tried it, but I’d love to collect more feedback from Linux Mint users specifically.
