Alma Therapist - Aetna 90837 Update
Hey, so I’m currently transitioning out of the practice I work at and am credentialed on both Alma and Headway. This is an Aetna specific issue, but they will no longer be reimbursing more for longer 90837 sessions than they do for 90834. I’m curious about your thoughts and if you think Aetna will implement this overall (ie on Headway or in general).
I’m sure we’re all feeling something for this so even just venting is fine. But if you have ideas on this as well that would be super helpful
(if your response is that we shouldn’t be on these platforms at all please just don’t comment as many of us are on them and it won’t change what’s happening now. This is also an Aetna specific issue and may end up affecting us whether we’re on Alma or not)
Also if anyone has insights on what may be going on that may be helpful.
My thoughts surrounding this is that Aetna is trying to see if 90837 is truly medically necessary by looking at how much the amount that code is used drops. The thing is though, that I’m not doing extra time for the same pay so it’ll probably happen anyway. They’re either going to hurt the clients that need it or they’re going to hurt the therapists that need a livable wage to not be burnt out.
