Toxic coworker overriding mgmt…making life hell

Has anyone dealt with a previously stable work group becoming toxic after one person joined?

Multiple people on both the federal and contractor side have raised concerns, including current management, but nothing seems to change because the manager is also having issues with this person.

The individual is aggressive, hostile, frequently overrides management direction despite not being a supervisor, and continues going above management channels to assert authority.

I recently went to the union and have been documenting contradictory guidance and issues for months because the situation keeps escalating. Prior to this person joining, our group had no major interpersonal or operational problems.

For those who have experienced something similar:
Do you go to your boss’s boss if your manager admits they cannot get through to upper management?
Did union involvement help?
How did you protect yourself professionally while things escalated?

Just looking to hear others’ experiences.

Applying for positions while remote

I’ve been remote since 2015. I live 400 miles away from the office. My work environment has become so hostile and bad that I need to get out. If I apply to other jobs on USA jobs they all say no under remote. Is that for new hires? Am I stuck in my position forever unless I relocate? How does this work?

I’m grateful for still being remote (at least for now) but the stress and environment is so bad that it’s causing severe physical and mental duress

I have worked remote for many years before COVId and the phase 3 RTO is coming my way. Within that timeframe of first working remote I have developed many back issues (thanks age).

I cannot sit or stand for long periods of time due to medical condition that is well documented in my health files. It’s not feasible or is it enough for me to take a break every 20-30 minutes and walk around. However since I worked remote I never applied for anything. I simply paid for my own walking pad, sit/stand desk.

When I have to report back I will NEED these items. I’m afraid of the backlog I keep seeing. Should I apply for this equipment now knowing there is a long backlog or wait until I’m assigned somewhere.
