I recently analyzed 4,400 seafood shipments exported from Vietnam to the U.S. during Q1 2026.
A few things surprised me:
One U.S. buyer imported $37M+ in a single quarter, with 87% coming from one supplier.
More than 20 U.S. buyers spending over $1M/quarter buy from only 1-2 Vietnamese suppliers.
Several exporters are getting 30-60% higher prices for essentially the same product category.
Key takeaway:
Many exporters compete on volume, while a much smaller group competes on specifications, certifications, packaging, and buyer positioning.
For anyone involved in seafood sourcing, exporting, logistics, or cold chain, where do you see the biggest opportunities in the Vietnam-U.S. seafood trade right now?
