The way people in this sub are talking about NPHC plots “star plots”isn’t just “not knowing better.” At this point, it’s willful ignorance.
Black fraternities and sororities were founded starting in 1906 because Black students were excluded from white spaces on campus. These organizations weren’t handed anything, they built community, leadership, and service in the middle of racism.
Plots exist because Black students historically weren’t given space. They are one of the few visible representations of that history and presence on campus.
So when people are told, directly, “hey, this matters to us, please don’t sit on it,” and the response is to mock it, dismiss it, or double down. That’s a lack of respect at best, and yeah, it starts to look like racism. No one is asking for anything complicated. Just basic respect.
If you can’t handle being asked to sit somewhere else for the sake of respecting a group with a long history of being pushed out of spaces, that says more about you than it does about the request.
