Paralyzed, is this normal?
3 years ago, my husband (male 60) became paralyzed from the waist down. He has some mobility. He uses a wheelchair and walker to get around the house. When I ( female 57) take him to doctors appointments, he opts for the wheelchair. He uses the walker to get into the restroom.
When we are at home, he sits in his wheelchair, at the kitchen table, scrolling his phone, for most of the day. Until he gets sleepy. Then he wheels himself to the hospital bed in my living room, to take a nap. Then he goes back to the table. Rinse and repeat.
He doesn’t participate in anything around the house. That’s always been my job. He’s content with that. So since he’s retired and at home now, with this disability, there’s nothing for him to do. He opts out of most jobs.
I’m obviously not paralyzed so I don’t know what to expect. But, before the surgery, he was a man that got up and went to work everyday. He fished on his boat. Yes, if he wasn’t doing those things, he was sitting on the couch on his phone. But this new routine, of bed to table and back again, is concerning. But, like I stated, I don’t know what to expect of a person who’s paralyzed.
If you’re disabled, or care for someone disabled, what should I expect?
