Unprofessional Management
I work a high-volume, public-facing frontline job. Our office has been short-staffed for a long time, and the workload has been heavy.
I recently entered a formal, merit-based competition for a promotion within my organization and I placed first on the list. The promotion is locked in, but due to standard corporate background checks and administrative processing, my start date is delayed by a few months.
When discussing the transition timeline with my direct manager, I was honest about feeling burnt out from our current office workload and having to work 2 jobs because of the low pay. Instead of being supportive, my manager used it to question my suitability, saying the new role might be "too high pressure" for me.
To make matters worse, a coworker just overheard my manager and assistant manager openly talking about me in a common area, saying I "don't appreciate their help."
How should I handle this?
