How does a retired person learn how to spend the money they've spent a lifetime saving?
My wife and I are closing in on retirement. We've done all the right things. We own a modest house and have no debt. We have signed up for a Service Canada account so know how much we are going to get at 65 or 70 if we decide to wait. We are working with a fee based advisor. We have saved in RRSPs and TFSAs and we get good returns in the market.
But we are having a hard time spending the money we've spent our life saving. We buy used vehicles and drive them for forever. We are generous to our kids and grandkids but just can't help living frugally. Our advisor could see we were very uncomfortable with the plan to start spending. He says almost everyone of our generation he works with has the same problem.
This is not a humble brag. But how do others decide to spend? Like practical advice?
