Leaky shower. I think I’m capable of the fix but would love some advice! TIA!

Hey guys, so like the title says, this shower leaks. I’ve included a picture of the back of the shower too. It’s in a basement so I have convenient access. My questions are:

  • Do I actually need a new faucet? Can I replace a cartridge or o-ring or something like that and get the leak to stop?
  • If I do replace the whole thing, is it pretty easy? Does/would it involve a special crimping tool or soldering?
  • I’m just a journeyman electrician so if it’s beyond me, be honest and I’ll call a plumber. It’s for my mom tho so I’d love to fix it on the cheap for her if possible. PS: the leak is slow but constant. If you over tighten the knob it will stop (kinda) but I know that’s not a viable permanent solution.

Also, thanks again guys. One tradesman to another, I appreciate all you fellas do! And for the record I have NO problem shaking your hand! LOL.
