Why we have a “No begging” rule for this sub

A few people were asking, so I just wanted to make a temporary little announcement to anyone who may be curious.

Essentially, the reason why the rule exists is for two things:

1) To reduce spam

The sub used to get many, many posts from people asking for money. It seemed like they were successful when asking for money, so more posts kept coming in. So, in order to keep the community on topic, begging was banned.

2) To protect our community

This is the point that I care about the most personally. A majority of our community struggles financially, thus they live in their cars. In such a case, it is important that they save their money so that they can improve their situation. As the saying goes: “The best way to take care of others is by taking care of yourself”

Because of this, it would be unconscionable for us to let this happen to our most vulnerable members. It would extra awful if not only their money was given away, but also if the person begging was running a scheme and not in need of money at all.

Closing Thoughts

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I would like to clarify that although begging is banned, offering help is not. If you are in a stable position and would like to help another person out, feel free to do so. But never feel obligated to do so, and remember that there are many other ways to help others out such as advice or even simple words of encouragement.
