Is the Oyster Tempo cooler sold at REI the “oops edition”?
Does anyone know if REI is selling the “oops” versions of the Oyster Tempo cooler, just bundled with the ice packs?
I recently picked up an oyster from REI, and the lid had a few small nicks, a strange liquid stain that wouldn’t come off all over, and a pretty deep scratch near the strap/handle lock.
I exchanged it at another REI, but the replacement also seemed odd. It came in a box with the cooler sitting directly on the accessory box instead of having its own protective packaging or the large orange cardboard piece with “OYSTER” written on top. This one looked better overall, but it still had minor blemishes and dark oily handprints all over it. The ice packs also weren’t secured in their cardboard holders on either cooler, they looked like they were just tossed in.
I understand it’s an aluminum cooler and it’ll eventually get scratched up, but for the premium price tag I expected a much better unboxing experience. Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience with this cooler from REI.
