I have an upright yammah piano with a practice pedal (the middle pedal) which lowers a strip of felt between the hammers and the strings. The felt is old and stiff meaning the playing action with the practice pedal is very poor and unusable. When playing a key, the adjacent strings will also sound creating dissonances. I am going to replace the felt for a more suppel felt fabric to resolve this problem.

But I am considering switching fabrics for a lighter weight as well to create a slightly less dead piano sound.

Question: has anyone ever replaced the felt with a thinner fabric?
