My mother in law has lived in this house since 2007 almost 20 years and hasn’t maintained it well at all.
Shes trying to sell her house that we all live in currently (my wife and I literally pay her mortgage/power/gas)
Her mother (grandmother in law 2) is selling her house to move into assisted living. So she suddenly wants to sell her house ASAP, and has given us 30 days saying she plans to list her house, that we need to buy it or decide what we are going to do (even hinted at renting, the irony)
Anyways my wife’s grand parents are realtors for a very wealthy area, and has told us that “you won’t find a better deal anywhere else for the same price” yet the fully remodeled house across the street sold for $340,000, her asking price. Mentioned how the house will increase 6% in value every year. I don’t believe so with repairs factored.
Now they’re trying to corner my wife when I’m not around to convince her it’s a good buy but I don’t think so.
I wanted to share some pictures of stuff to get opinions.
I plan to have a home inspector come by while it’s just me at home and look over the house.
3 of the rooms I know for a fact have cracks, and tile like sagging ceiling. Some of the cracks are brown stained, one of the rooms has large cracks, some of the trim has separated from the ceiling/paneling leaving gaps between wall or ceiling. My mother in law has never let me into the attic. I suspect there is water damage.
The 2nd bathroom/shower has started to drip recently and when you turn the faucet on the pipes sound like their rattling.
One of the walls has a literally extension cable it looks like in the wall run for a power outlet…? While I was under the house, I think I saw a few like that.
Also we moved in she had alot of cats that have stained the hardwood with as you can guess, urine, the hardwood is also heavily scratched up, some corners of the walls that are hardwood paneling
The hot water heater is rusted at the tap where the rod goes in to the point where the plastic cap goes is gone and its exposed white insulation.
This is just some of the stuff and I’m limited on the photos, there’s more stuff.
They intend to “discuss” the house with us this week, that would could do it as a private sale, but I told my wife not respond for now. I told her this house needs a full inspection and appraisal before I’d even consider buying it.
Looking at these photos, what are your thought’s? (Located in SC house is Brick from the 1950’s)
