Buying apartment in Thessaloniki

Considering buying an apartment in Thessaloniki — which areas would you recommend?

Hi everyone!

I’m from Serbia and I’ve been visiting Thessaloniki for a while now. I really like the city and I’m seriously considering buying a small apartment there in the future, so I’d love to hear some opinions from locals or people who have bought property in Thessaloniki.

I’m mainly looking for an apartment for myself, but I’d also like the possibility of renting it out when I’m not there.

Which areas would you recommend for this?
I’m currently looking at places like Neapoli, Toumba, Kalamaria and the city centre, but I’m open to other suggestions as well.

My main priorities would be:
a safe and pleasant neighbourhood
good public transport / connection to the centre
reasonable prices
good potential for renting
preferably an area where I could actually enjoy living for a few weeks or months a year

Are there any areas you would strongly recommend or avoid?
Also, if you have experience buying an apartment in Thessaloniki, I’d really appreciate any advice about things I should look out for — old buildings, renovation costs, parking, legal issues, etc.

I’m not looking for a luxury apartment or anything huge. I’m just trying to understand which areas offer the best value for money.

Thanks in advance! Any advice from people who actually live in Thessaloniki would be greatly appreciated.
