Amrita M.Tech CSE Interview (Non-GATE) Experience 2026 – Interview lasted only 5 mins, should I worry?

Hi everyone,

I attended my MTech CSE interview for Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham today as a non-GATE candidate, and I wanted to share my experience because I’m a little confused about how it went.

My interview slot was from 2:40 PM to 3:00 PM, but the actual interview lasted only around 5 minutes. The interviewer was polite and continuously asked questions, but still it ended very quickly, so I’m overthinking whether that is normal or not.

A little about my profile:

  • 2025 BTech CSE graduate
  • 8.75 CGPA
  • Did a 2-month internship
  • Projects in Full Stack + ML
  • Applied for MTech CSE

These are the questions they asked me:

  1. Introduce yourself I explained about my B.Tech, internship, projects, and interest in software development and M.Tech.
  2. What is your favorite subject? I said:
  • Problem solving
  • OOPS

I told them I like OOPS because it helps us approach problems in an organized way.

  1. Gradient Ascent They asked me about gradient ascent.

Honestly, I said:
“I don’t have much knowledge about that topic and I haven’t learned it deeply.”

  1. Fuzzy Logic They asked me what fuzzy logic means in AI/ML.

I answered something like:
“It is used in machine learning and AI systems to make decisions similar to human thinking.”

Not sure if that answer was correct.

  1. Activation Function They asked what activation function is.

I said:
“I don’t have much idea, but based on my understanding it is used in neural networks to decide whether a neuron should be activated or not.”

  1. Hackathon participation They asked whether I participated in any hackathons.

I told them me and my friends participated in a 2-day hackathon and built a website related to latitude and longitude/location tracking.

  1. Inheritance in OOPS I explained inheritance using:
  • Vehicle as parent class
  • Car as child class
  1. Any research papers published? I said no.

Then they told me:
“You will get results within one week.”

At the end they asked:
“Do you have any questions?”

I asked:
“How does Amrita help students gain deeper knowledge in their specialization?”

She answered that support and guidance are provided, especially depending on the student background.

That was the complete interview.

What is confusing me is:

  • The interview lasted only around 5 minutes
  • But they continuously asked questions during that time
  • I couldn’t answer some ML questions deeply

So now I’m wondering:

  • Is a short interview normal for Amrita MTech admissions?
  • Does interview length matter?
  • Did anyone else have similar experience and still get selected?

Would really appreciate hearing from others who attended Amrita MTech interviews, especially non-GATE CSE applicants.

Amrita University M.Tech CSE Interview (Non-GATE) – What should I prepare?

Title: Amrita University M.Tech CSE Interview (Non-GATE) – What should I prepare?

Hi everyone,

I applied for M.Tech CSE at Amrita University through the non-GATE category, and my interview is in 2 days. I wanted to know from people who already attended it or are currently studying there — what kind of questions do they usually ask?

Like:

  • How long does the interview usually last?
  • Is the interview difficult or mostly basic?
  • Do they ask DSA/coding questions or mainly theoretical CS subjects?
  • If they ask DSA, will it be coding-based or just concepts?
  • Which subjects should I focus more on for preparation?
  • Do they go deep into technical topics or just check basics?
  • Will they ask about projects/resume too?

Would really appreciate if someone can share their experience or any tips for preparation. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I’m a 2025 graduate and currently preparing full-time for SDE roles.
Honestly, I’ve been trying to do DSA on my own but couldn’t stay consistent, so I’m looking for a study partner.
I’m starting from basics again and planning to be serious for the next 2–3 months.
Looking for someone who:

  • is also preparing for SDE/fresher roles
  • can practice daily (2–3 problems)
  • is okay with a short discussion (10–20 mins, not necessarily every day)
  • actually wants to stay consistent

We can:

  • follow the same topics
  • discuss approaches/solutions
  • keep a bit of healthy competition
  • share job openings and apply together Not looking for a big group, just 1–2 serious people. If you’re interested, comment here or DM me.
