In 2026, the U.S. hits its 250th birthday—a massive milestone. But here's the problem: Independence Day lands on a Saturday that year, which means most people get Friday off and that's it. We're asking for Monday, July 6th to be declared a holiday too, giving everyone a proper four-day weekend to actually celebrate this historic moment.

I started a petition because this isn't just about an extra day off. The 250th anniversary only happens once. It's a chance for families to gather, communities to reflect on what this country means, and local businesses to see a real boost from people traveling and spending over the long weekend. Other countries do extended holidays for major national events all the time—why shouldn't we?

I moved here as a naturalized citizen, and moments like this remind me why I chose to call America home. This celebration matters. If you think a four-day weekend for America's 250th is worth asking for, consider signing and sharing the petition. What do you think—does this feel like the right move to you?
