What Would the Dominican Republic be like Today if the US Had Agreed to its Annexation in 1870?
In 1870 over 90% of the Dominican Republic voted to join the USA. It was a pet project of Ulysses S Grant. Unfortunately it fell through largely because of a feud between him and the Senator who was head of Foreign Relations at the time. The plan was to fast track it to statehood since it was joining willingly.
How do you think its statehood would affect the Dominican Republic and the rest of the USA today?
