Struggling to Get a Hospital Nursing Job in Suffolk County NY

I’m hoping to get some advice from other nurses, recruiters, or hiring managers in the Long Island/Suffolk County area.

My wife has 6+ years of Med-Surg experience from Dubai and the Philippines and has been working as an RN in a nursing home for the past 4 years here in New York. She has her NY RN license and is experienced in bedside nursing.

We live in an area where there are several hospitals within a 10–15 mile radius, so we thought finding a hospital position would be relatively manageable. Unfortunately, she has been applying to hospital RN positions and isn't even getting interviews.

It’s becoming really stressful and frustrating for her. She knows she has the experience and is more than willing to start, learn the hospital's system, and prove herself. But getting rejected—or hearing nothing at all—without even getting an interview is discouraging.

For those who have successfully transitioned from nursing home/long-term care back into a hospital, especially on Long Island:

Did you have difficulty getting interviews?

Did you use a recruiter or apply directly through the hospital?

Is there something specific hospitals are looking for on the resume?

Would reaching out directly to nurse managers actually help?

Are there particular hospitals in Suffolk County that are more open to experienced nurses coming from LTC?

Any advice, personal experiences, referrals, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're just trying to figure out what we're doing wrong and how to get her foot in the door for that first interview.

Thank you!
