Had to leave an Eagle Scout Facebook group.

I am proud to have earned my Eagle Scout and I hope to soon see my son achieve the accomplishment. Eagle Scout is a worthy accomplishment and all Eagles should be proud. Now for the but....

Scouting is intended to prepare youth for adulthood and likewise Eagle Scout is an accomplishment of our youth. I see some adults putting large chest and back tattoos with Eagle Scout themes and I have to wonder why an adult in their 20s/30s+ is still holding on to their youth accomplishments so strongly. And, not just one person, many. I don't know anything about these people or their lives. I understand I may be violating parts of our scout law, but I am writing this from a position of genuine caring and curiosity. I just couldn't stay active in that group.

I am happy to still be active in scouting, helping youth develop into amazing adults built on a foundation they learned in scouting. For those that persevere and earn Eagle Scout, I hope it is the start of an amazing life not the pinnacle.

Cleaning up the past (crew)

Last crew put the oil cap on wrong and made a mess. I had limited time to clean it up, but made good progress over two days when then engines weren't hot. Just using diapers and dawn.

Boots

What are you guys doing for boots? I just have a pair of laced up hiking boots and they are fine when they are dry. What's your favorite boot on the boat? Do you like a protected toe? Did the expensive boot work out for you or did you tear it to shreds? Any one doing slip ons? I've even heard some folks going with just crocs...sounds crazy to me, but I haven't tried it so who am I to judge.

NY mariner networking

I'm an entry level deckhand. Working to follow my passion in a mid life career change working on tugboats. I'm looking to network with some locals who can help me get started. Happy to treat you to coffee for a sit down. Tell me your stories, what you love and hate about the job. See if you think I have what it takes and help me out with a reference. DM me if interested in connecting.

I'm a 46 yo male, with 25 years of experience in land based supply chain, operations and finance. I can't work in an office full time anymore; I need to be outside. I know my knots, cooking, cleaning, tool use, simple mechanics (I change my car's oil and brakes), map reading (land), orienteering. My goal is to hawsepipe my way up to captain. I can also do office work, train others, problem solving, help with bookkeeping, spreadsheets, etc. Happy to do the office work if it helps to get me towards my goal.

TWIC card in hand, MMC submitted.
