DrPH or Ed.D.? I Need Honest Advice.
Hello everyone,
I’m looking for opinions from professionals who have experience in public health, education, or both.
I currently hold B.S. in Biology, an MPH, and an MAT. I worked in the medical field for about 3 years before transitioning into education because I couldn’t find a public health position after earning my MPH.
I’ve now been teaching middle school science for 4 years, and I’ve been very successful. My students consistently earn some of the highest science test scores in my surrounding area, and we’ve won regional and state science fair championships multiple times. I truly love teaching and working with my students.
However, I’ve always had a passion for public health, and I’m considering going back to school. My dilemma is deciding between pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) or an Ed.D.
The DrPH aligns with my original career goals, but I’m concerned about job opportunities since I struggled to break into the field before. The Ed.D. seems like the safer option because I’m already established in education, but I’m not sure if I want to spend my entire career in the classroom.
If you were in my position:
* Would you pursue the DrPH or the Ed.D.?
* Which degree provides better long-term career opportunities and earning potential?
* Has anyone successfully transitioned into public health after working in education?
I’d really appreciate your honest opinions and advice. Thank you!
