Getting deployed soon, wont say where, but i currently have an apartment. Everyone says to terminate my lease so i can pocket bah and not have to worry about the apartment. Only problem is my gf is living with me and isn’t paying rent. Would it be a dumb idea to keep it and have her split rent with me while I’m gone knowing it could not work out with us or whatever? She doesn’t get a lot of money and if i terminate my lease shes basically forced to couch surf/live in car, but i also dont want to be stuck paying rent for a place im not living. It seems like a no brainer to keep it just want to know your opinions. Thanks.
Edit- I told her im not keeping the apartment for logical reasons, and she started crying and stopped talking to me. She thinks shes going homeless but she has her dad to move in with if she needs. I feel like shit.
Last edit- Felt like we were about to break up, but i told her she needs to work on herself and figure out her life. I realized that she has been living off of me with nothing in return so im terminating my lease and she has to figure out her own living situation. Was kind of a last straw thing but this deployment is gonna be very stressful and if i was still dealing with rent it would be worse. Thanks all for your advice. Relationships suck but im not gonna throw ours away quite yet i want it to work but my life comes first.
