Should an existing employee be required to pay for an up to date police check?
Hey all, I work in the electrical industry as a full time employee and for our next job we are required to supply a police check no older than 6 months to be allowed on site.
I have had to apply for a police check within the past year for another job out of my own pocket which I just copped as an expense I’ll get back at tax time.
That was longer than 6 months ago so I’ll need a new one and my employer has stated it is on us the employees to pay for it with no option of getting reimbursed.
To your knowledge, does fair work have anything that either explicitly states that this expense is not to be paid for by an employee without reimbursement or indirectly states that an employee should not be the one paying for it?
I’ve been at this company for a few years now and while I dont have any issue with a police check being made, I don’t want to be paying for it multiple times per year depending on specific work site induction requirements I might face.
