I am on a business trip to Chennai, and i was checking BMS for the screening of the new Surya movie near me…

I am shocked with the massive price diff bw both the cities.
There’s no single screen charging beyond 200 rs, be it multiplex or single screen (im guessing this is due to the govt price capping), but this makes it very much affordable to everyone regardless of the class.

Whereas, in KA, movie watching experience can be considered a luxury (atleast in multiplexes). A movie watch could cost anywhere between 1500-2000 for a family of 4.
And if the movie is having a decent run, dont even ask about the price, it would be a challenge to find a single multiplex screening below 300 rs. The pricing would be anywhere from 300 upto 800-900 rs.

When kollywood is thriving even with this minimal pricing, why can’t we do the same?

Is it the cinema culture difference? Or the economics? Or there is more to it?

A cinema buff here, who sees movie watching experience as a pure recreation one needs…
