I come to you, hand on console, asking for help.
Hey folks,
It seems I’ve caught the FOMO virus and bought too many PC gaming handhelds, and now I need some immediate unsolicited advice from Reddit.
Currently owned handhelds and what I paid (Australian Dollars):
Lenovo Legion Go 2 Z2 Extreme, 1TB, 32GB
Price: $1820 AUD / $1300.74 USD
(New – still returnable)
Lenovo Legion Go S Z1 Extreme, 1TB, 32GB
Price: $750 AUD / $536.02 USD
(Second-hand)
Asus ROG Ally X Z2 Extreme, 1TB, 24GB
Price: $725 AUD / $518.15 USD
(Second-hand)
Steam Deck OLED 512GB, 16GB
Price: $650 AUD / $464.55 USD
(Second-hand)
Gaming Habits:
- Mainly play at home on the couch with my Wife.
- Mainly use handhelds while travelling 1–2 times per year for holidays.
- Handheld-only use, as I already have a PS5 and a gaming PC.
Games I Intend to Play on Handheld:
Genres: Indies, RPGs, metroidvanias, roguelikes, JRPGs.
Examples: Brotato, Cloverpit, Moonlighter, Balatro, Hades, Hollow Knight, Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
My questions are mainly geared toward people who have owned any of these handhelds for more than 3 months and have solid experience with them, but everyone is welcome to share their opinion as well.
Questions:
For those who have owned any of these handhelds for 3+ months, which one do you still genuinely use the most and why?
Based on my situation, which two handhelds would you keep and which two would you sell?
Is keeping both a Windows handheld and a Steam Deck actually worth it, or does it become redundant over time?
For the games I play, does the extra power and battery of these handhelds really matter in day-to-day use?
If you were in my position and could only keep ONE handheld for the next 2–3 years, which would it be and why?
Hopefully I’ll be cured soon and can redirect my reckless spending habits elsewhere.
Any and all input is welcome and appreciated.
Cheers.
