This week the whole co-ed summer camp feels were hitting strong on 《短剧X家族》 “Short Drama X Family”! The giggling and just pure fun they had as they took the cast out to the ocean for some fun on the water!

But before fun on the water comes our PD Ma with a game first thing in the morning lol.

Wang Xiao Yi… I said last week girl is on another level and once again proved it! Each member had to go outside to rank the other members in order of some topic while the ones inside have to seat themselves in the order of what they think the answer will be. 

Her turn comes up… and the thought process she went through is mind boggling lmao.

She gets her assignment, who would you backstab first, leaves the room saying go with the most common, easy thoughts for order. The group was like great! Sure! Yeah!

She comes back with a baffled look on her face as they were all wrong and proceeds to explain why. Her EASY answer was not easy. They went with who she would really want to take out of the game, competitors like Liu Xiao Xu. 

Her answer was yes but, Liu Xiao Xu would be hard to try and backstab so thats why I placed him at the end. 🦗…

Girl no one would think that way when you say easy lol!

As they took off to the water it was Liu Xiao Xu who on the scream meter this week on the jet ski where the staff made the mistake of letting him actually take over driving smdh. Then Shen Hao Nan wanted to try it and he sounded more like he was drowning from the spray of sea water than screaming!

Wang Xiao Yi straight up KILLED it on the Flyboard! She was up there making it look like they were doing swan lake! Lin Mo on the other hand tried to act like he was cool but just about upchucked his breakfast lmao.

Elsewhere the girls were cruising around in a Bentley shaped speed boat of sorts. NGL, coolest looking thing ever lol.

The cutest moment was post Shen Hao Nan and Lin Mo falling into the water from the Jet Ski was the group quickly banded around Lin Mo since he was freezing, covered him in towels, gave him hot tea and huddled around him to give him warmth all led by the appointed caregiver of the group, my boo, Liu Xiao Xu! 

As much as Lin Mo is the Lee Kwang Soo of the group, IYKYK, they still have his back even after all the tricks he pulls! 

After a fun day on the water the group heads back to the hostel to prepare for the next part, and Liu Xiao Xu taking off for filming, and this is where it hits ya in the feels when they are on the bus. Its always the bus moments and revelations they have on it that get me 🥲.

After bringing food for the cast, Liu Xiao Xu talks about the adjustment from going from non stop fun to the fast pace of the filming world and that in just the past 4 days its been the most relaxing vacation he has ever had.

Well done SD X FAM, well done! This was what we all hoped our vertical actors got to experience doing this! Freedom to let loose and have fun!

Can I also say again I really do appreciate the fact that the cast have no issues being filmed without makeup, hair a hot mess, zit patches on, eating like there is no tomorrow (I see you Shen Hao Nan trying to be quite so no one notices you packing it in but yo I dont blame you, a seafood feast?! lol) and chilling in just comfy sweats?

🧳Now the cast is headed off to Jilin Province and Changbai Mountains for the second half! 🛬

Which means… we are getting to CHEN SI and YANG PENG CHENG! 

Let me tell you… those boys came in swinging, literally lmao! They were there to serve punishment to Shen Hao Nan, Lin Mo Wang Xiao Yi and Jia Yixuan if they didnt complete their task.

Homegirl Wang Xiao Yi decided to attack the people with the water balloons rather than the water balloons!

Shen Hao Nan was attacked with the balloons rather than having them tossed to him lol.

The cast also caught on real quick with the water slap punishment. It goes by rank, those with the most points get the smallest amounts of water thrown at them and the water container size increases by each person (cap of water to a full on bucket) as it gets to the last person. 

My BFF Shen Hao Nan’s sass shined so much this episode that you know he is comfortable where he is at lol. I dont know if its the change to the mountains or the arrival of another walking chaos maker Chen Si! 

As they go down the line the payback levels mount which they in turn take out on the next person. This means poor SHN, in last place, got the bucket… tossed at him by Chen Si… And well you can see how that worked out lmao!

However… This one, the more I keep seeing it and seeing comments on it, I'm 50/50 on watching this.
Reason one being I am legit over people being 25+ 30+ and playing highschool characters. I was over it with Dawson Creek IYKYK lmao!

Like really who are you trying to fool saying some of these people are 17?! 

Reason 2, the whole make a drama look like a comic gets old pretty quick. There are only so many BAM and KAPOWS you can take lol.

Overall though the story looks cute and worth the attempt to watch! Nothing is better than a cute rom-com that is not bogged down by a truckload of side issues like love rivals, death threats and interfering MIL’s!

Not to mention…

Ok, so I was originally all over this one. I mean Liu Xiao Yu? Hell yeah! Read the storyline, and it seemed interesting enough to look into! 

However, after digging… This still looks like its a really good drama, but more so in an emotionally draining type of way lol. Like a vampire, its going to leave you drained and an emotional wreck with the ups and downs. 

I foresee a lot of self revelations, healing, tears, angst, more angst with some tiny bits of action sprinkled on top (it is a C Drama of course so there are kidnappings lol) and all the feelings you can cram into 79 episodes... 

All of which are good things! And for Liu Xiao Yu this character is such a stark contrast to him on SD x FAM lol. Sorry! Obsessed with that show lmao!

Hu Yi Yao… girl looks like she is ready to eat Liu Xiao Yu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between! And he… is trying his damnedest to not give in?!?!

Bro, the wilderness must be getting to you cause girl is ALL about getting down wit it and you are just sitting there going ‘oh it stopped raining lets go’?! Da hell?! 

Granted the amount of baggage these two are carrying and their, what seems like polar opposite personalities, him not giving in might be the smarter move, at least from the start lol! 

This one is for sure on the watchlist (but with a proceed with caution and tissues warning) cause really though …

Ok this one… I know its coming at me with a jab-jab-uppercut to the emotional guts! 

All the BTS and live streams of this filming have really impressed me on this one. There is a reason Zhang Chi is going places and its not just cause he is hot as hell and you just wanna… ok stopping there, trying to be serious! 🧘🏽‍♀️

The storyline for this one just has sooo many levels to it. And a lot of which you do not see often  that makes me want to watch it even more!

I also love the fact that Zhang Chi’s character is more on the mature side in styling and just the overall background. Basically there is more meat and potatoes to this character than some of the cookie cutter ones he has done in the past. Do NOT get me wrong I love those ones as well lol! (Please no sharpening of the pitchforks but, like you get what I mean yeah lol!?)

He keeps branching out, expanding his range and hitting it out of the ballpark each time IMO! 

Hou Cheng Yue has always been one of my fav female actresses and it looks like she will not disappoint on this one as well! 

SD x Fam is throwing me for another tail spin though, and I dont mean the cartoon, with how sweet and caring she is on there and then seems kinda soooo not here, at least at some points lol. 

There is a scene that I am sure everyone has seen at this point since its floating around everywhere lol, of her slapping the cake out of his hands… Can we say rude?! Like he was there, on his knees, in the rain (looking hot), and you slapped that cake so fast that it turned back into flour and eggs!

Granted, I havent seen the FULL scene and maybe he did something wrong like calling her another girls name, I dont know, but from the reels and clips… She got issues lol.

However, I'm still 100% down for this one!

That being said… I have high expectations on this one! I mean how could I not?! And based on Weibo reported numbers, “Before filming wrapped, the show had already garnered over 1 million pre-orders, then surpassed 1.5 million around June 10th, and by June 14th, it had exceeded 2 million pre-orders.”

Another point from Weibo and just the super topic comments alone are full of comments like this about the drama, “The production team's promotional efforts have been praised by netizens as "setting a precedent in the short drama genre," with posters, concept art, behind-the-scenes footage, and other materials being produced with care and continuous output, attracting a large audience.”

I am not the only one hoping that they surpass the high bar that has been set!

I swear PD Ma for 《短剧X家族》 “Short Drama X Family” must be in a group chat with the other PDs from the Keep Runner franchise cause they are getting SLICK with some of their tricks! And the cast has finally fallen into the variety show groove!

Select misinterpretation of rules, thievery, fake tears, begging and mounds of deception are creating the most amazing chaos!

Creative answers are flowing for games like ‘bring me an item that starts with a B sound’ where you forget the letter while trying to find said items so you try and make your ‘blue shopping cart’ pass lmao.

PD Ma of course was ready for them and axed a ton of the items since he only wanted ‘items that start with a B sound… in Mandarin ONLY’ that means English out, Cantonese out... They REALLY got creative after that! 

Then we have Shen Hao Nan dropping a truth bomb that made everyone stop in their tracks by saying "aren't we things"?

Granted he meant it in terms of the game, bringing items that start with B where he and his team tried to pull a fast one and give themselves ‘B’ name titles like he is a baby, he is a bodyguard... The underlying context was sooooo not lost on everyone though lol.

Side note… Shen Hao Nan - filter = my BFF for reals yo (as previously declared in the New Release-The love you gave me) 😉!

As the debt was still going strong, he cast was even tried betting with each other to try and offset it which became outrageous and ended up going down the path of hand washing dirty socks 🤮🤢! 

While everyone was trying to pin parts of their debt on each other, my girls Hou Chengyue and Jia Yixuan, were a few notches less chaotic than the boys and took to hiding out in makeup shops/giftshops/clothing shops with giant bags on their backs so they couldnt get hit with a sneak attack. Smart!

Which of course led to more shopping then playing lol. While the girls were exercising their wallets the boys were out running around like mad men!

The SD X FAM cameramen have also finally unlocked the ‘how far can you keep up with your assigned actor while carrying a camera as they take off at hyena speeds’ quest and low and behold Liu Xiao Xu was the first one out of the gate! Long legged Yu Lunhao also gave these poor guys a workout!

I foresee an increase in gym memberships and treadmills for this film crew lol.

My other home girl, Wang Xiao Yi, … what can I say lmao. 

She is that one friend that you have to…

To sum it up, the girl is on another level! Shopping? Nope! She went with ‘let me try and hide in an ice cream freezer’… see why I say you gotta watch this one?! She must give her manager a heart attack on the regular!

Also when I said that PD Ma was scheming, they had the cast running around all day with the above events and then had them sit down to a nice dinner, however with a few twists of course. First course… a haunted house! 

Insert Shen Hao Nan screaming like a little girl. Multiple times. At multiple octaves lol.

Oh and you thought the sock washing was a joke? Nope! PD Ma was at the ready with soap and basins for the losing team to clean the winning teams socks… from that day! ☠️

Here is the rough translation from the article which was actually an interesting read since he talks about The Empress and the Scholar and his thoughts and actions behind the character! Granted G to double O had some selective ideas on how to interpret things but, here is the main gist of it lol.

In the drama, the character he portrays—Tang Yichen—is an emperor who can foresee the ending right from the story's inception. "Yet, he must walk the path in between himself." Chen Si notes that the sense of powerlessness—"I can command the empire, but I cannot hold onto you"—is something that deeply resonates with him.

更让人意外的是，这部戏的结局，其实是他“演出来的”。
Even more surprising is that the drama’s ending was, in a sense, something he acted into existence.

“原版的剧本不是现在这样。”他说，“演到最后一场戏的时候，原本的镜头已经拍完了。但那一刻，我觉得自己作为唐亦宸灵魂的‘载体’，应该再做点什么。”
“The original script wasn’t like the final version.”

He explains:

After discussing it with the screenwriter and director, this new version of the ending was ultimately presented to the audience.
