I think there would be a lot of really unique use cases for this. The most basic being that you can temporarily get an extra stack of an item to help power up your run but there's a lot of other applications.

You could take a void item but also take the original version of the item and use both at once. Imagine using both a void band and a fire band. Lets say also you come across a good printer or soup but want to make sure at least one specific item is safe from RNG taking it when you go into it. Well with the lockbox you can.

The lockbox would also help when fighting Mithrix phase 4 as you could keep one item at least and it would help when dealing with things that can disable items entirely like invalidators.
