I’ve been experiencing what feels like low blood pressure episodes for the past 4 months or so. I was diagnosed with mild hypertension in my early 20s, prescribed 5mg lisinopril and that had brought my numbers down to the normal range.

Now I am 29 and my baseline BP seems to have dropped significantly. I will get readings as low as 114/58 at home, when years ago it was more like 135/80. This is consistent with readings at the doctor’s office, too. I have white coat syndrome and used to get numbers exceeding 160/90. My last office visit had me at 133/71 (VERY abnormal for me).

But what’s happening now is every couple weeks I’ll get an episode of weakness, lightheadedness and feeling very cold at work. Even to the point of shivering when the thermostat is at 73°F.

It usually strikes around 10am (I take my pill before 8am) and will be bad enough that I have to go sit down or eat a protein bar to stabilize. It usually subsides by lunchtime. This also happens most often when I’ve done heavy cardio at the gym the previous day.

Obviously I’m scared of fainting and I don’t understand why my blood pressure is suddenly low after all these years. My doctor just refilled my prescription so I don’t know what to do.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? If you went from high BP with meds to getting off completely, I’d be interested to hear your story.
