My thoughts on Uni admission results

Gonna post my comment I made here.

Imma be honest, admissions are getting more competitive each year. To survive you need high grades and/or an APPROPRIATELY stacked portfolio

Emphasised the word "appropriately" because from my observations, most people, in a bid to enter university, stack internships. Do volunteering. Attend courses. Not wrong, but not ideal.

Lets be real, no one can gather enough experience for university applications within a span of 3/4 months. Experience to show genuine passion takes more than that, or years. If we use that take, it would mean starting to build up experience since JC. But I get it many students dont rlly think about their future at that stage, they only do it nearing the end of As.

Some degrees are highly demanding. For degrees like healthcare related degrees, do your volunteering experience, hospital or other attachments involve intensive clinical and laboratory work typically found in a life science degree programme? In my opinion, these 3 matter: 1) how relevant is the experience/event you attended; 2) How sufficient is your work; 3) How good is your reflection in showing the admission officers you have made full use of your time and be a suitable candidate to join the programme?

Yk how unis are pushing more to ABAs right. You have unis like SIT and SUSS with less strict academic requirements, but the competition arises in the ABA part. Nus is also highly research-based.

Having certain awards like your ECHA and EAGLES are actually insignificant to use for university applications.

For people who js want to go to uni without any specific, can take up various jobs or volunteer ah. Only downside is that if your RP is low or cant make the IGP, there's a chance you wont make tbr cut fr. Thats why some of my friends legit went through a gap year to extensively build their portfolio. Before that they rlly thought through abt what they want for uni and after graduating.

Yall can try appealing. If not, if you have unis offers that aren't your top few interests, maybe can give it a try unless you really hate it and cant imagine yourself studying it. Got a friend who has received ntu engineering offer and sport sci offer. Rejected them and wants to try appeal i think i not sure. Theres also part time degrees in SUSS (assuming no other FT offers). Private uni application window closed rn but pt suss degree application window open alr for next year Jan. I wouldnt recommend retaking As unless yall have the drive and determination. And think abt the degree you really want for uni. Lastly there is gap year.

Js my thoughts. Atb and im open to other opinions too
