Railroad ties + blueberry bushes
Hi Reddit! I am looking for advice. We moved into a house last summer. I saw a previous post about the dangers of railroad ties used for gardening/landscaping and realized we have some surrounding a small garden on our property. The garden contains 8-9 blueberry bushes, some rhubarb, rosemary and daffodils. I asked our neighbor if he knew how long they had been there and he said they were there when he moved in next door 40+ years ago. They are in pretty bad shape but there is still a faint tar odor about them. We will be disposing of the railroad ties as soon as we are able.
Are the blueberry plants salavagable? Should I remove them and throw them away? Should I attempt relocating them? Can I test the soil for creosote? We are located in Southern Maine, USA. Thank you for your time!
