I plan to separate from the military in Sep 2027. When should I apply to NCIS SA position to minimize a gap?

They usually have hiring announcements around Sep/Oct and Feb/Mar, and it seems the process moves pretty fast.

If I apply in Sep 2026 (one year in advance) and get my FJO in like 3–6 months, can they hold an academy slot such long time until I separate?
I saw someone here mentions their FJO said must be able to EOD within 3 months.

I’m hesitant to apply for a spring announcement, because the process may take longer for due to my foreign background.

I’d appreciate any advice.

I’m currently AD military and hold a Secret clearance.

I plan to apply for 1811 (special agent) positions with some Fed agencies.

I immigrated to the US less than 10 years ago in my 20s from some “unfriendly” country.

Could this be an issue, and what should I expect during the process? I assume the background investigation will be more thorough…
