My job is "Concierge" and instead I am working in sales and HR.
I was hired at the front desk for a "Concierge" position at a Nursing home with the following job description:
"Works as the face of the community by providing a welcoming and informative experience for residents, their families, and the public
Operates telephones to answer, screen and forward calls, providing information and taking messages
Greets visitors entering establishment and directs or escorts them to specific destinations
Performs word processing duties as assigned
May assist guests in and out of vehicles or wheelchair
Reports any issues or problems that may arise to the Executive Director"."
I am one month in at my job. I was approached by the Sales Director on week one who sat me down and ran me through how to sell a room. I work weekends, so a lot of families walk in and want to see the rooms. I also receive a lot of phone calls and "sell" over the phone. So far, my sales on the phone and in person have resulted in 4 people moving in. There is no benefit to me to do this and there is actually a push to "sell more".
I am making $16 an hour. My boss gave me a key to her office. Her office is where all Resident and employee information is kept. Since she "has no time" during the week, she asked me to process all new hire information. This means I must make a file for every new employee she hired and make sure their SSN, DL, and acceptance letter is in that file. Their hourly rate of pay is on the front of that acceptance letter.
The med techs and caregivers know I am doing this. I have had a few people walk into the office on weekends because I'm actually supposed to be at the front desk answering the phone. Instead, I am doing HR work and have a pile of personal employee information in front of me. A few people turned me in accusing me of breaking into her office on the weekends accusing me of stealing SSN's and going through her drawers.
I know what almost everyone in the building makes hourly I don't want to. I am the lowest paid person in the facility aside from one teenager in the kitchen.
I am all about making change so I do want to talk to the Executive Director before I just leave this place but I also know if I do that the HR rep will probably retaliate and make my life hell. Should I just quit?
