Travel question - over 50 miles
Hi,
My wife is an RN at the local VA CBOC. Recently, they asked her to go cover a position at another CBOC which is over an hour drive away; and more than 50 miles from both our home and her normal CBOC.
My reading of the policy is that she should be being paid overtime if they require her to work her normal 8-4:30pm. Meaning she leaves at 7 and gets home at 5:30pm.
Normally, she has about a 5 minute drive. Today was her first day doing this and they informed her she would be getting the ~/$.70 per mile travel but no overtime.
Is this correct?
She said she emailed her union last week but didn't get a reply. Can anyone clarify for us? She's very nonconfrontational, but I hate to think she's missing out on due pay for what equals 2 hours of new overtime twice a week.
Thanks
