Nightshift and Caring for a 2.5 year old. Am I crazy?

Are there any other parents out there that have taken up working nights to help care for their young family ? I'm looking for some reassurance that I've not made a terrible decision.

So just some background on my situation- we live rurally with very little childcare options which are also very expensive. We have no family nearby. I was working evenings and weekends in the local pub but this meant that I was never spending anytime my partner as I would take care of my son in the day, then once he got home he would take over and I would quickly be out the door and once I got home both were in bed.

This worked for a year but I saw a job for 2 nights a week working in a chain hotel. I went for the interview and got the job. I have been working for 3 weeks now and I'm worried I've made a mistake. I work two nights in a row and have my son to look after from when I get back in and then back out the door for 2230. I can in theory nap when partner gets back from work at 18:30.

Does anyone else out there balance and how do you survive? I have my evenings and weekends back with my family but will it be worth it?
