Online Student
Are there any online students at Athabasca University that are finding success in this method of post-secondary education? I'm taking some courses online with the intention of obtaining a Bachelor of Science, Computing and Information Systems Major or at least the corresponding University Certificate. However, I'm getting my ass kicked. I'm not a genius by any means, but I have previous experience with university courses, technical machine and computer experience through work, and training in other disciplines (pilots license). I understand that the majority of learning is self taught through this method via textbook and course materials, however, I have also found expectations from tutors to be fleeting and grading to be ambiguous. I genuinely work hard on all my assignments and generally get decent grades (80-90%) but some of them come up 60's or even 40's out of the blue with an accusation of having my work be AI generated. It's frustrating to say the least. My most recent heartbreak comes from failing my Intro Python Programming course because I was a few marks away from passing the final exam with no feedback. I have previous experience with Python, got great grades on all the assignments, and failed the course with a final grade somewhere in the 70's because I didn't pass the final exam. I understand the necessity to combat students who rely on AI to generate all the projects and assignments, but I also feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle here. Does anybody have any advice for success in these courses taken in the online format? For reference, ENGL255 and COMP218 have been the courses that are breaking my spirit. I'm hoping that I have a better experience with later computer science courses as I'm more or less committed to this process at this point. Has anyone climbed the Computing and Information Systems mountain with any wise words to share?
