It’s done!

1dpo from vnotes procedure

Everything went so smoothly! I went in at 7:30, procedure at 9:30, home by 4:30. Not a fan of the post anesthesia nausea, and they gave all the things to prevent it so I can only imagine if I hadn’t asked for extra. My only real complaint was the recovery nurse.

Straight to sleep in the operating room then I woke up in recovery to the most condescending nurse ever. I woke up in pain. I told her over and over it hurts and she said, “you just had major surgery, of course it’s going to hurt” and refused to give me pain meds. I was groggy, nauseous, and confused and just kept asking and she kept saying I didn’t need any. Then she asked my pain level and what if like it to be. I said 6 and I’d like 0 but would be okay with 3. She said that’s not possible. Finally, I asked her if my doctor said I wasn’t allowed pain meds or something and she said that wasn’t the case and gave them to me. I kept asking for my husband because I figured he’d advocate for me and she said I couldn’t go to him yet. Has anyone else experience someone telling them they shouldn’t be in pain immediately post-op? Seemed weird to me.

Anyway, since I’ve been home, the pain feels like bad period cramps. Keeping it at bay with Percocet and ibuprofen.

My favorite thing I got for the surgery is a C-section gel wrap that you can freeze. I just lay it across my abdomen and it feels so nice.

Thanks for all the people who have posted and answered questions in here. This group has made me feel so much more prepared and aware of the kinds of support I’d need. I would’ve canceled this thing if I hadn’t had this you all. ❤️

An Ode to my Uterus

I am four days into what will be my last period and it’s sure pulled out all the stops for its grand finale. So I wrote my uterus a poem. I thought this crowd would appreciate it.

Oh it’s been a terrible chore,
To clean and scrub the toilet and floor.
I don’t mind it once in a while,
But four times a day is just cruel and vile.

You’ve stained my clothes,
You’ve soiled my sheets.
You’ve disrupted my weekends,
vacations, fun treats.

For every cup placed
is a cup runneth over
You always flow past,
all the ways I try to cover.

Nothing can contain you,
You run like it’s a race.
Even the Thinx
can’t keep up with your pace.

A lifetime of yuck,
Bloody hands, oh such gore.
Enjoy your last hurrah,
there will be no more.

I’m sorry to do it,
Because you’ve done me right too.
You did a beautiful job of growing
Thing One and Thing Two.

For that,
I will ALWAYS be grateful,
But now it’s time to stop you
from being so hateful.

Even with all
the trials we’ve had,
It still makes me
a bit weepy and sad

To know that this will be
our last time
So that is why
I wrote you this rhyme.

Goodbye old friend,
I bid you adieu.
But I’m looking forward
To the day I don’t dread saying “achoo!”

How long until you could drive after VNOTES?

My kids start at a new school Aug 13 and won’t be able to use the bus anymore, so I’ll need to drive them. My VNOTES surgery is scheduled for the 18th and DH will stay home with me for the first week post op. He can take them to and from school the rest of that week, but then he has to go back to work the following Monday. He commutes and has to leave the house over an hour before they can go to school.

Round trip, the drive is probably about 20 mins (plus or minus, pending ridiculous elementary school traffic lines that plague all schools 🤣).
Do you think I’d be able to drive them one week post-op, or should I try to find someone to help with that for a couple of additional weeks?

Scheduled my vNOTES surgery today..

I’m having all the feels about it. Mostly anxiety, and after reading how bad off so many women on here were before surgery, I feel like maybe it’s not so bad and I shouldn’t do this? I’m 37, two kids, and diagnosed with menorrhagia and thickened endometrium. No endo or cysts, and biopsy came back clean.

I think maybe part of my problem is that I tend toward doing things naturally, and with minimal interventions. I have never had major surgery, and had two unmedicated births because I was more scared of the epidural than doing it without meds.

I keep thinking maybe I’m making a bigger deal out of my symptoms than necessary. Then I think about how I have unbearable periods that I dread and which have caused me to be anemic and basically keep me confined to home for 2-3 days every month. But they are regular and don’t have pain at most other times. I can’t tolerate any bc I’ve tried in the past 15 yrs (migraines, mood swings, constant spotting), so I feel kind of helpless. Is my decision to get a hysterectomy an overreaction? Will I regret this?
