Idaho Statesman journalists on strike today
Union journalists at the Idaho Statesman are striking today to fight for livable wages and guardrails against AI in our newsroom.
The Idaho and Washington News Guilds have called a one-day, unfair labor practice strike after more than a year of bargaining for a fair contract with our parent company McClatchy Media.
We are asking you to not cross the picket line today, Tuesday, May 26! Join us by refusing to click any articles or interacting in any way with our five McClatchy newspapers.
Our newsroom has been hit with layoffs, left with fewer resources and stuck with unlivable wages amid a push for AI usage to pump out more content without care for real local news.
We have filed charges against McClatchy with the National Labor Relations Board over its bad-faith bargaining, including the company’s refusal to bring decision-makers to the table or even identify them.
