Looking back, what actually helped you go from "I have an idea" to consistently building?

I'm currently in this stage myself.

I have a full-time job, I've wanted to start something of my own for a while, and I've realized that having an idea isn't the hard part. The hard part is making consistent progress week after week.

I've read books, listened to podcasts, used AI, and planned more than I'd like to admit. Those have all been helpful, but I still feel like there's a gap between wanting to build and actually building consistently.

For those of you who eventually made that transition:

  • What was the biggest thing holding you back early on?
  • What actually changed?
  • Was there a person, community, routine, or system that made the biggest difference?
  • Looking back, what do you wish you'd had during that stage?

How do people actually make progress on a side business while working full-time?

I've been trying to build something outside of work, and honestly, consistency has been much harder than I expected.

It's not a lack of ideas.

It's finding the energy, knowing what to prioritize, and not feeling like I'm doing it completely alone.

For those of you who've successfully built a side business while working full-time:

  • What actually worked?
  • What didn't?
  • If you could go back, what support would've made the biggest difference?

Curious to hear real experiences.

Anyone else been sitting on a business idea for months (or years) without making much progress?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because it's something I've struggled with myself.

For the past year or so, I've wanted to build something outside of my full-time job. I have ideas, I genuinely want to do it, and I know I'm capable - but I just haven't made the progress I thought I would.

I've read books, listened to podcasts, used AI, and spent way too much time planning. Those things help, but I still find it hard to consistently move forward. Sometimes it's time, feeling lazy, sometimes it's uncertainty, and honestly, sometimes it's just feeling like I'm doing it alone.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

If you have:

  • What's been the biggest thing holding you back?
  • What have you tried that actually helped?
  • Have you found any communities, accountability groups, or support systems that made a difference?
  • If you could design the ideal support system for this stage, what would it look like?

If you work full-time, what's been the biggest thing stopping you from starting your business?

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

Have you ever had a business or startup idea that you've wanted to pursue for months (or even years), but struggled to make consistent progress because of work, life, uncertainty, or simply doing it alone?

If so, what has been the biggest blocker?

  • Not enough time?
  • Not knowing what to do next?
  • Lack of accountability?
  • No one to bounce ideas off?
  • Fear of investing time in the wrong idea?
  • Something else?

I'm researching how people navigate this stage and would genuinely love to hear your experience. I'm especially interested in hearing from people balancing this alongside a full-time job
