Tips for glass fusing with kids?

I'm looking for both safety tips and tips to make it a fun/successful outing. The kid is 10, and I don't know her super well. Her mother will be present. I've taken one fused glass class, and enjoyed it a ton. Kiddo picked this in a choice between fusing glass or making pottery.

We'll be at the local studio, using my own glass (coe 96) because it's cheaper. I ordered some freeze & fuse glass dinosaurs because she's in her dino era. I also got little high-fire wire loops to make pendants. There's glue & magnets available for post-fusing.

The deal at this studio is that we cut & glue, and the studio does all the firing. We don't load or control the very small jewelry kiln. The cutting tools are often dull at the studio, but I'm not enthusiastic about getting my own to take with us.

I've asked the studio if they have safety goggles that will fit a child, and I'm thinking about having her score the glass, but her mom and I do most/all the snapping. I'm okay letting her do a square for the main pendant with us hovering attentively, but if she wants a bunch of small shapes, I'd rather take over.

I mean to avoid grinding & frit altogether. If it comes up at all, it's for grownups.

I'll give kid & mom a pre-game safety & what-to-expect talk. What should I include?

Many thanks!
