A management tick….

Brief context, I’m 2 days from my 90 as a cca. My station is alright. I like it. I seem to be doing well. The boss is alright.
Well it’s a Friday and it’s a small station so I got a whole route plus half a route I’ve done once before because the other cca called out.
My “on time” would have been 730. Called the boss about 7pm to tell him where I was at. As for an eta, couldn’t give that to him. I’ve got a bundle left and I’m told to scan and deliver the accountable and get back to the po. He wants me clocked out by 8. Easy.
Welp, just got a message from him as I’m on my way home. Apparently I delivered a flat that was being tracked through royal mail without scanning. I mean fair, gotta point that stuff out so I’m more cautious.
But then he says “you need to pay attention and stay off your phone”.
Maybe this is hard to believe but I am definitely not playing around on my phone. I have a single AirPod in that I don’t even use to listen to podcasts or anything because I lose my train of thought easily. It’s just for texts and phone calls from/to my boss and other carriers.
So, what is this? Is this just a formality or something? Does there have to be a tangible reason behind reprimanding me and he just chose “phone” because it’s easy?
Not gonna bother defending myself or anything. Already sent him the boiler plate “sorry, I’ll be more cautious next time” text and I’m satisfied with leaving it at that. Just curious and want to prepare myself for next time.
