Need advice or tipped vs hourly pay job position

Hello, I am a student working in restaurant in USA for the summer. Currently I am a hostess getting an hourly pay, but I have the opportunity to try aiming to be expo, cashier or runner in the restaurant. I am european and I am not fully aware of how profitable these positions are.

Therefore, is it profitable to aim for these tipped positions? I work in New Jersey, right next to New York and with the world cup coming up I am hearing mixed opinions on whether people will be generous with tipping or not.

Tldr: is it profitable to switch from hostess to a tipped
position like cashier, expo, runner?
