My girl is colicking
My beautiful 10 year old heart horse is cokicking and I’m terrified. I was out of cell range all weekend and as soon as I got signal, my phone blew up with messages from the barn.
My friend called the vet and she’s being trailered two hours east of me to the University Vet Clinic.
I don’t have colic insurance and it’s been on the long list of things to do, but didn’t happen. I’m such check a F Up. Wtf am I going to do. I’m live pay check to pay and lease her out part time to pay for board. I HATE that her life may become a financial decision.
This is a nightmare.
UPDATE: She made it through the night and had pooped! Hazzah! She’s still getting bags of IV fluids as she was very dehydrated, which may have set all this off. She’s so much brighter this morning. If she continues to look good and her labs are good, will try a little feed next.
If she’s able to eat and still be ok, will probably go home tomorrow.
Financially, I have to call my insurance company. I have Mortality Insurance, but it also says $7,500 medical and $10,000 surgical. I don’t know if that only applies if the horse dies or if they will cover up to that amount regardless of the outcome. Ya, I know I should understand these things and, I don’t.
I’m really really smart in some areas and beyond dumb in others, especially financial numbers stuff (Yeay dyscalculia).
Anyway, she’s certainly very much improved. I can finally get some sleep and breathe a bit.
Thank you!
