I know next to nothing about snakes. I found this guy in my back yard and all of my research says it’s a common garter snake. However we have 4 dogs and a baby, and I just wanted to make sure I was right before I let it be. My only concerns with the dogs is getting bit, they like to chase other critters in the yard. And while the baby is too small to be out in the yard on his own right now he won’t always be. I don’t see a whole lot of information that tells me I need to be concerned.

What I found says the narrow head, stripes and length says it’s probably harmless and most likely a garter snake. That they’re not venomous and largely just want to exist. However I truly just wanted to triple check for my own sanity.
