I Spent One Week Playing Guitar Like a Complete Beginner Again

After years of playing guitar, I realized something strange.

I could play difficult riffs.

I could learn songs quickly.

But I had completely forgotten what being a beginner felt like.

So I gave myself a challenge:

For one week, I wasn't allowed to play anything that my first-month self couldn't play.

No solos.

No barre chords.

No advanced techniques.

No showing off.

Just open chords, simple melodies, and basic rhythm.

Day 1:

It was frustrating.

My fingers automatically wanted to play faster and add extra notes.

Day 3:

It was interesting.

I started noticing things beginners struggle with that experienced players forget:

  • Changing chords without looking.
  • Keeping rhythm while singing.
  • Avoiding accidental string muting.
  • Staying motivated when progress feels invisible.

By Day 7, I learned something unexpected.

The hardest part of guitar isn't technique.

It's surviving the period where you sound bad.

Most people quit before they ever hear what they're capable of becoming.

So now I'm curious:

If you're an experienced guitarist, what beginner struggle have you completely forgotten about?

And if you're a beginner right now, what's the most frustrating thing you're dealing with and how many of the guitarist are going to be a begginner like me for some time?
