I have two dogs: a big one (Swiss Shepherd) and a small one (a Pinscher mix).

The bigger one drinks A LOT of water and also “plays” with it (putting his paws inside the bowl), so I keep his water in a bucket (I change the water about two times a day). The smaller dog can’t reach the bucket, so I leave a smaller bowl out for him.

The problem is that as soon as I put water down for the smaller dog, the bigger one immediately goes over and drinks all of it at once, I know it’s not just thirst cause he drinks from his own bucket all the time. He also shows this behavior with food, but for that case we separate them during mealtimes. Water is harder, because they both have free access around the house and drink at random times.

I think it might be resource guarding or some kind of competition behavior. Is there any way to train him to stop drinking from the smaller dog’s bowl? Right now I have to refill it constantly because he drinks everything immediately.

O maior bebe MUITA água, então deixo a água dele em um balde (troco a água umas duas ou três vezes por dia), porque quando a vasilha é menor ele também tem mania de colocar as patas dentro. Já o menor não consegue alcançar o balde, então deixo uma vasilha menor só para ele.

O problema é que, assim que eu coloco água para o pequeno, o maior vai lá e bebe tudo de uma vez. Ele também demonstra esse comportamento com ração, mas nesse caso conseguimos separar os dois nos horários das refeições. Com água é mais difícil, porque os dois têm livre acesso pela casa e bebem em horários aleatórios.

Acredito que pode ser comportamento de possessão/competição por recurso. Existe alguma forma de adestrar ele para parar de beber a água da vasilha do menor? Porque atualmente preciso ficar enchendo toda hora, já que ele toma tudo imediatamente.
