(I live in RI) I was homeless last year and Crossroads helped me get into an apartment with a landlord they have previously worked with. Crossroads started paying the majority of the rent and I was responsible for 30% of my income. Crossroads dropped me when my husband got a job and our household became “over income” which made us responsible for the entire rent of $1,650. Which we’ve been paying, but the lease expired in March. So now he wants to raise the rent, he won’t say by how much, wants us to become responsible for the electricity, (or our portion of it, not really sure how that works) and I just want some advice because I feel like it’s illegal for him to ask for another security deposit, and he should be taking care of this pest problem! I bought diatomaceous earth and have been putting it down everywhere but it’s not completely fixing the issue and he has never fixed anything in the apartment and he lives right below us. I’m scared to be homeless again but I don’t want to be pushed around.
