1-month in Texas, looking for volunteering / work exchange ideas

Hi, I’m 18 from the Netherlands and I’ll be spending about a month in Texas in September during my gap year. I’m trying to figure out the best way to make the most out of my time there and I could really use some advice.

I’m open to a lot of different experiences like volunteering, work exchange, staying in hostels, or more rural options like ranches or animal-related work. I’d also like to base myself somewhere where I can meet people around my age and have a social experience, not just work.

If anyone has suggestions on places, programs, cities (like Austin or elsewhere), or ways to connect with opportunities like this, I’d really appreciate it.

Searching Ranch Work

Hi, I’m 18 from the Netherlands and currently planning my gap year. Around September I’ll be in Texas for a few weeks and I’m looking for opportunities to work or volunteer on a ranch with horses and animals.

I’m interested in experiencing real ranch life, being outdoors, working with animals, helping around the property, and learning new things. I’d love a place where I could stay on-site for a few weeks (around 2–4 weeks max).

I don’t have professional ranch experience but I know how to ride a horse. I am very motivated, open to hard work, and excited to learn. If anyone knows good ranches, programs, websites, or has done something similar themselves, I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations.
