Opinion: Do not attend NYU Gallatin

It’s overselling itself as an academic institution. This school’s degree programs are cash cows.

Gallatin stretches the liberal arts into delusional ends. Its degree programs lack directive and disciplinary focus. This has led to a hollow sense of community and “interdisciplinarity.” Many graduates are not equipped to pursue opportunities or pathways their counterparts at rival schools are.

Gallatin students comprise mostly of transfers who mostly aren’t of good quality relative to NYU’s other programs. In addition, a great portion of Gallatin courses are taught by adjunct instructors who struggle to deliver. Seminars and arts workshops are poor compared to their counterparts in CAS, Steinhardt, and Tandon.

Advising is inconsistent, and student life is very small. The school is stratified due to a lack of departmental unity.

Other programs, at universities such as Tufts, Brown, and Cornell, offer stronger programs of individualized study. They also harbor a higher caliber of undergraduates, with greater socioeconomic diversity than Gallatin.

Do not attend this school unless you receive generous financial aid. Internally transfer out if you can
