I’m visiting the Netherlands this summer and staying in Amsterdam for a few days.

I’d like to visit Zaanse Schans, but also spend some time exploring Zaandam itself. The windmills seem easy to reach, but I’m wondering if it’s worth renting a bike for the day instead of using public transport.

Are there any scenic cycling routes around Zaandam that tourists usually miss?

Also, are there any local bike rental companies near Zaandam station that people would recommend?
